The Hamilton Tiger-Cats silenced a lot of doubters with a dominant win against the B.C. Lions in the East semifinal last weekend and will look to do the same against the Ottawa Redblacks on Sunday.

Hamilton’s last appearance in the Grey Cup was in 2014 when they lost 20-16 to the Stampeders. The Tiger-Cats haven’t won a title since beating Calgary in 1999 and have only two appearances since.

All eyes will be on the quarterbacks as Jeremiah Masoli and Trevor Harris performed at an MVP level this season but Masoli would earn the MOP nomination over his divisional rival.

Ottawa might have had one of the quietest seasons ever for a team that finished in first place in the East.

Part of the reason is they didn’t win consecutive games until the end of the season.

Led by Harris, the Redblacks (11-7) were the only East Division team to finish above .500, earning Ottawa the bye.

Harris threw for 5,116 yards, which was the first time he’s had over 5,000 passing yards in his career.

Running back William Powell finished 28 yards behind Andrew Harris for the league lead in rushing yards and had a career-high six rushing touchdowns while adding another 319 yards through the air.

Rookie kicker Lewis Ward had a spectacular season only missing one field goal all season, and that was in the first game of the season!

The Kingston, Ont., native went 51-for-52 this season and passed Adam Vinatieri’s previous record of 44 consecutive field goals made without a miss in pro football.

This will be Ottawa’s third time hosting the East Final in the last four years.

Nothing has come easy for Hamilton this season, losing Brandon Banks ahead the East semifinal.

That injury had many wondering if the Ticats had enough weapons to get the job done.

Those doubts were tossed aside as they kept their foot on the gas pedal, both on offence and defence, and the Lions had no answer.

Maybe having “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair on hand to fire up the team and the crowd was the difference because B.C. looked lost, failing to get on the board until the fourth quarter.

The Tiger-Cats defence established their dominance in this game with two fumbles, an interception and three turnovers on downs.

In a rematch of the 2015 East Final, Ottawa will look to repeat history. The Redblacks beat Hamilton 35-28 to go on to the Grey Cup three years ago.

Ottawa would end up losing to the Edmonton Eskimos but returned the following season to beat the Calgary Stampeders for their first championship.
