Manchester Utd have been boosted by the return to training of Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Marouane Fellaini ahead of Sunday’s game against Everton.

Sanchez missed Tuesday’s Champions League defeat to Juventus with a groin problem and Jose Mourinho appeared to have ruled the Chilean out of Sunday’s game as well.

However, the former Arsenal forward has since been able to return to training, raising hopes he could be involved against the Toffees.

Mourinho will again be looking for a response from his players after their timid display against Juve in midweek. That defeat stalled any momentum gained from their win over Newcastle and draw at Chelsea either side of the international break.

But they will be coming up against an Everton side full of confidence after winning their last three Premier League matches, a run which has seen them climb above United into eighth place.

Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez and Marouane Fellaini could all return to the squad after resuming training on the eve of the game after recovering from their respective groin injuries.

Scott McTominay is likely to miss out with a knee problem while Diogo Dalot and Marcos Rojo are definitely absent.

Everton have no fresh injury concerns following last weekend’s win against Crystal Palace.

Summer signing Yerry Mina was an unused substitute in that game as he awaits his debut following his recovery from a foot injury.

James McCarthy is back in training following a broken leg but isn’t quite ready for a first-team return.

Ademola Lookman, Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are pushing for a recall after impressing from the bench against Palace last time out.

Jose Mourinho has offered his support to misfiring striker Romelu Lukaku as the Belgium international prepares to face his former club Everton.

Lukaku hasn’t scored in eight games in all competitions and has scored just four goals in 13 appearances all season.

That poor run is in sharp contrast to his form at the same stage last campaign, when he had already netted 11 times.

That has led to speculation Lukaku could be dropped for Sunday’s visit of the Toffees, something Mourinho has denied while also playing down rumours he could re-sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic as cover.

Everton potential XI: Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Zouma, Digne; Gomes, Gueye; Walcott, Sigurdsson, Bernard; Richarlison

Man Utd potential XI: De Gea; Young, Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw; Matic, Pogba; Rashford, Mata, Alexis; Lukaku
