Preseason games often lack meaningful story lines since the outcomes are meaningless but tonight’s game between the Eagles and the Patriots has a little more juice than normal.

This is, after all, a “Super Bowl LII rematch” between the team that won the game (Eagles) and the team that lost the game (Patriots) earlier this year on February 4.

It seems like both starting quarterbacks from that game will be making their preseason debuts tonight. Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles said he’s ready to go after missing the Eagles’ first preseason game with some neck soreness.

Old man Tom Brady has had a sore back but said he expects to play on Thursday as well.

Maybe Brady’s pain will conveniently flare up again when it comes time for him to shake Foles’ hand in congratulations for beating him in the Super Bowl.

The starters for both teams will likely play about a quarter. During the Doug Pederson era, Philadelphia’s first team unit is averaging 23.5 snaps played in the second preseason game.

Foles will get some good work in before Nate Sudfeld and the backups take over. Then we might see Joe Callahan under center late in the game.
