James Harrison is now officially a member of the New England Patriots.

After Field Yates of ESPN broke the story earlier on Tuesday, the team officially came out with the release that they’re signing the former Steelers linebacker to help them make a bid at another Super Bowl this season.

The other shoe to drop regarding this signing was who New England would release to make room for Harrison on the active 53-man roster. Now, we know that the player they’ve elected to part ways with is linebacker Trevor Reilly

Harrison was released by Pittsburgh on December 23rd and is currently in his 15th season in the NFL. The 39-year-old linebacker has primarily been a member of the Steelers organization throughout his career, but did spend a season away from the team as a member of the Bengals in 2013 before re-signing in 2014.

What the Patriots get in Harrison is an experienced linebacker who has won two-Super Bowl titles with the Steelers and is a former Defensive Player of the Year. They also get a linebacker who is pretty fresh after only playing in five games and totaling 40 snaps for Pittsburgh this season.

This signing fills a key spot for the Patriots as they needed not only talented bodies at the pass rushing/linebacker spot, but they also simply needed healthy bodies as the unit has been decimated with injuries all throughout the year.

Harrison should bring that in bunches along with the promise of some more heated moments if the Patriots and Steelers end up facing one another in the AFC Championship game once again.
